Club Paradiso

Photographer Max Natkiel portrayed in the 80s the heterogeneous clientele of the Paradiso Club in Amsterdam, a place for some of the most identifiable radical urban tribes and some of the most significant and wild characters of the night of the city. 30 years later filmmaker Marc Geerards tracked down 200 of those clients and captured them again, this time with a video camera but without any significant audio nor an interview, just the person in front of the camera. The filmmaker establishes a connection between the photographic and filmic document while the portraits open to several reflections, the first and most obvious the passing of time, but also the level of personal commitment, traces of the process of learning or their personality transmitted by a simple appearance among others qualities. The project's website features the Natkiel portraits and some of the filmed portraits.
